Homemade BBQ Chicken Pizza

This homemade BBQ chicken pizza is so easy and tastes better than takeout! BBQ sauce on homemade pizza crust with delicious toppings. You’ll want to make this pizza over and over again!

What better way to celebrate a hard work week than eating delicious pizza?! That’s what my family says, which is why we make pizza almost every Friday. We used to grab a pizza or put a frozen pizza in the oven, but we started making our own pizza and I am so glad we did! Of course, you can buy pizza from a restaurant or a frozen pizza from the store, but you can make your own delicious pizza for a fraction of the price!

This homemade BBQ chicken pizza is made with a simple pizza crust and you can find the recipe for my homemade pizza dough here. Smothered with your favorite BBQ sauce, mixed greens, chicken, mushrooms, and cheese. So simple, yet it tastes so good!

Equipment Needed

  • Pizza stone

Ingredients for Homemade BBQ Chicken Pizza

  • Flour- This will help your pizza dough from sticking to the surface when rolling it out.
  • Pizza dough- Check out my homemade pizza dough recipe here.
  • Cornmeal- Sprinkling a fine layer of cornmeal on the pizza stone will prevent the pizza dough from sticking. Cornmeal also adds an extra crunch and texture to the pizza crust.
  • BBQ sauce- I used a mild BBQ sauce for this pizza recipe, but feel free to use whatever BBQ sauce you prefer.
  • Mixed Greens- I like using baby spring mix for my greens, but you can use any greens. Spinach, arugula, lettuce, whatever you desire.
  • Chicken- I use chicken breast for this recipe, but any chicken would work. Whatever chicken you use, make sure it is cooked and diced. To save even more time, use a rotisserie chicken.
  • Mushrooms- Sliced baby Bella mushrooms taste great for this pizza!
  • Cheese- Mozzarella cheese works best for this pizza. Mozarella is very stringy and bubbly, perfect for pizza!

How to Make Homemade BBQ Chicken Pizza

  1. Preheat the oven to 475°F with the pizza stone inside.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a 10-inch circle. Start rolling in the center and work your way out. Make sure the bottom is not sticking to the surface. Apply small amounts of flour if needed.
  3. Once the oven is heated, carefully take out the pizza stone using oven mitts and grab the stone by the handles. Add the cornmeal and carefully transfer the pizza dough to the top of the pizza stone. If your pizza stone does not have handles, skip this step! Instead of building the pizza on the stone, you will transfer the ready-made pizza at the end.
  4. Carefully spread the BBQ sauce onto the pizza stone. Add the mixed greens, chicken, mushrooms, and cheese. Try to evenly distribute the toppings across the pizza.
  5. Carefully transfer the pizza on the pizza stone into the oven. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is slightly browned and bubbly. Remove from the oven and cool for at least 10 minutes. Carefully transfer the pizza onto a cutting board to slice. Enjoy!

Tips

  • Pizza stone- The hotter the pizza stone the better! Also, the longer the pizza cools on the pizza stone will create a crispier crust.
  • Rolling out the dough- I like using a pastry mat to roll out the dough as it has measurements and it is an easy cleanup!
  • Toppings- I try my best to evenly spread the BBQ sauce across the dough and evenly distribute the toppings. This ensures each slice has a good amount of toppings.
  • Transferring the pizza- After the pizza has cooled down a bit, I slide a thin cutting board under the pizza and then cut the pizza on the cutting board. That way I don’t ruin my pizza stone!

How to Store

The best part about pizza is the leftovers! Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. When you are ready to eat, either eat cold or reheat in the oven or microwave.
